The Cookie-Ma-Tron bakes with some rather unusual ingredients! These ten ingredients begin in a particular order, but each ingredient has some instructions printed on it which will cause the order to be altered in some way. However, you don’t simply follow the instructions in order. There’s a separate sequence of steps which tells you which ingredient’s instructions to follow.

| PLUM TOMATO | 2 | Swap this ingredient with whichever adjacent ingredient is alphabetically closer to it. |
| GOAT CHEESE | 3 | Follow the instructions on the ingredient immediately after this one. |
| ROLLED OATS | 4 | Swap this ingredient with the ingredient immediately after it. |
| RED CURRANT | 5 | Reverse the entire list. |
| LEMONGRASS | 6 | Swap the two ingredients whose instructions you followed in the previous two steps. |
| CITRIC ACID | 7 | Eat all the ingredients. Call in RED HERRING as the answer to this puzzle. |
| SOUR CHERRY | 8 | Reverse the longest anti-alphabetical contiguous sublist of the list. |
| GOOSEBERRY | 9 | Follow the instructions on the ingredient immediately before this one. |
| BARLEYCORN | 10 | Split the list into its first and second halves. Merge the lists two items at a time, with each pair of ingredients going in alphabetical order relative to each other. |
