Though this is not a standard acrostic, it still has one feature in common with a standard acrostic: one finds a message by reading the first letters of the answers. Here the message is USE CLUE WORDS. Note that the instructions are carefully worded that one should fill the blanks with the "correct words" -- not necessarily the answers to the clues. In fact, the correct words are words taken from the clues: every clue contains exactly one word of the same length as the blanks.
